Well finding a good idea is mostly 40% of the way.. but yet again, its usability depends on a good marketing.
I actually made a decision maker web-app called Pilih!. I wonder if this one's useful... i just made it yesterday =)

This is absolutely NOT a ploy to pimp DropSend!! Not sure what the sense would be in doing that. We're just trying to poll people on what their favourite app is - whether DropSend comes 10th or 100th in that list is neither here nor there. We've had hundreds of votes already and the results so far are pretty interesting but not wholly unexpected. As for existing lists of top apps, the ones I've seen (including those referenced here) mainly rely on measuring site traffic, and are not qualitative, opinion-based surveys - which is what we're looking at here. Neither method is 100% conclusive and both have their faults - we're just interested to know how people feel about their favourite apps.

I'm getting an error telling me that there is only one submission per person when I try to add my entry and I haven't submitted yet. It may be user error but thought I'd mention it.

Tom, while I understand what you're getting at, just because I have to use a Windows machine every now and then doesn't necessarily mean I'll be voting for it as best operating system any time soon.

Who really cares what Joe public thinks when it comes to this kind of 'research'.

Do they know enought to make any valuable input at all.

I think you will find (even though its just a bit of fun) that the results will be very interesting indeed.

Hi Brad. I do get the point. But the point of any survey is to be representative. If the results were used in-house to figure out which speakers to ask then OK. But this is being promoted, and the results "announced".

If Carsonified does indeed have integrity then they won't include themselves in the results, or try to pass off DropSend as the Xth most popular web app.

This is clever (and fun - the results shouldn't at all to be taken seriously) marketing that will further their reputation as a web app events company, and widen the reach of FoWA (this is clearly what the site is intended for). They don't need to sully it by attempting to use it as a promotional tool for their apps as well.

It is worth keeping in mind that even if Carsonified do exclude themselves from the results, the results are then only representative of Carsonified's audience, and their related audience - those who make web sites. It isn't representative of the general web world and can only be seen as apps of interest to web designers and so on. Good for figuring out speakers and sponsors for their events, as you say, but not as a general Web App Chart.

Regarding Tom's comment. I dont't think he gets the point. I don't recall that Carsonified is awarding a prize for the most popular, but rather a tool to justify Event speakers, sponsorship opportunities, etc.
I doubt they will call themselves.

Yup, here it is: http://www.statsaholic.com/sethgodin

Not based on voting rather than alexa traffic, so you could say its either the least/most democratic way of ranking :o)
