Gill and I were brainstorming the other day and we were trying to think of a fun surprise that we could give to the Team. Then the answer just jumped up and smacked us in the jaw … iPhones (bam!)
So from now on, it’s standard procedure for every new Carsonite to get a brand spanking new iPhone (to go with their MacBook and 23″ Display). We also pay the basic tariff so the phone doesn’t cost them a dime (if they want more minutes, they can just pay the difference). I love the smile that comes over people’s faces when we hand them their new little technology gem.
We’re big on making work and life fun and hopefully this is a little step in that direction.

On a side note, we’ve been really enjoying Remember The Milk’s iPhone edition (Mel discovered RTM - good job Melski!). We use to to exchange to-dos at the office and it’s working brilliantly.

Remember The Milk is the ish (in a good way). I’ve been using RTM as my work task manager for the past 6 months.
On the work/life balance part…
For 2008, I made a new years resolution to focus on the whole work life balance thing and making sure to include personal tasks/goals in RTM which I then review with my wife weekly. Its only been a few weeks but now that my wife has visibility into my work and personal tasks/goals, she feels so much more involved and helps contribute to my success.

[…] So when I read their latest post on giving all their employee’s iPhones as a surprise present I just had to blog about my admiration for how they run things. Not only do they furnish you with a Macbook and 23inch display, but you get a fully-paid-for iPhone aswell! Perks aren’t everything you know, so why not have a 4 day working week thrown in as well. A 4 day working week is absolutely genius and if I ever start a company one day, this is something I will work towards right from the beginning. […]

[…] Carsonified employees get an iPhone as their corporate IT geekery, along with a MacBook 23″. Wish I could work there! Nice approach to staff morale Ryan, keep them in with the latest kit and hopefully keep them happy (along with a great working environment, etc, etc). Now I wonder if I can convince my boss to get me one… […]

I reckon it’s another cunning plan by Ryan to break the morale of the rest of us.
That 4-day week trick did hit me hard first time round I have to admit and now he’s gone and done it again! ;)

Great idea, I’ll leave it on screen next time $boss is around :)
Does this count as some kind of benefit, and does that go on to effect what tax either you or the employee pays?
