  1. A word from the new boy

It’s hard to believe but I am already nearing the end of my second week at Carsonified. I’ve been busy settling in, learning the ropes, getting to grips with the controls on the Aeron chair and helping organise this week’s Start-up clinic.

Having not actually moved to Bath has also meant a number of train journeys back to London. Thankfully things should settle down next weekend when we finally pack up all our worldly goods and head down the M4 permanently. Then it’s off to Miami for Future of Web Apps so maybe not!

Carsonified HQ has been going through some changes ahead of this week’s “Start-up clinic”. The projectors arrived, the sound system has been maxed out thanks to Guitar Hero, the handouts are at the printers and the food has been ordered. It looks set to be a great couple of days. And in what I believe to be a first for a Carson Workshop I will be “live tweeting” the event. For regular micro updates feel free to follow the action as it happens on Twitter.

To coincide with the workshop we are hosting an “Open Coffee” night in Sub 13 in the heart of Bath. It’s an evening where web entrepreneurs and start-ups can meet, chat and have a drink! A number of the team will be going along so if you are in the area why not join us. Full details can be found on Upcoming.

As well as Start-up clinic, we have two other workshops coming up in the next few months that are definitely worth checking out. The first is by Thomas Fuchs, the creator of the script.aculo.us JavaScript framework and member of the Rails Core Team. A month later renowned designer and author of “Transcending CSS: The Fine Art of Web Design” Andy Clarke brings his latest workshop to London. Full details are on the Carson Workshops web site.

Finally if anyone in the Bath area is interested in participating in a regular web design/web development meet up at Carsonified HQ drop me a mail (keir at this domain) or leave a comment. The format is up for grabs so if you have any ideas let me know. It would be great to get to know local web people, share ideas and hear what you’re all up to.

Hello Keir, sounds like you are getting stuck in at Carsonified. It is great to hear. I am particularly interested in the live tweetering from the event and it will be exciting to see this happen. I have been really getting into twitter feeds and discussing this with a local blogging group that I am part of. It is interesting to see how the tool is being used for business use and alternative means. I use 3 accounts, one for personal use a second for my company and the third is used as purely an RSS aggregator to collect news. All the best.

Hey Keir - glad you are settled in but just wondering what the obsession is with Aeron chairs? Don’t get me wrong, they are great and very ergonomic - we have them in our office too, but why do Carsonified put such emphasis on a chair?

Best of luck with your new job!

      Thanks for your comment Neil.

I don’t think we are obsessed by Aeron chairs although I can see why you might say that :-) I only mentioned it as I needed a ten minute lesson in how to use it and I have never had that with a chair before. Definitely configuration over convention!

We’re based in Bristol but would happily pop over to Bath for a web dev meetup. It’s a lovely place Bath :) Be sure to let me know if you arrange anything.
